Please note that we require exams with vaccinations.
Every cat has a different level of risk of exposure to contagious diseases and we think it is important to tailor vaccinations to meet your cat's lifestyle. The benefits of vaccination greatly outweigh possible risks, but vaccines should be used carefully.
We use Purevax vaccinations by Merial which are the safest vaccines available due to the fact that they are non-adjuvanted. An adjuvant is added to a vaccine to stimulate the immune system to react to the vaccine and thus increase the effectiveness of the vaccine (i.e. to make antibodies to protect your cat). Unfortunately, many of the adjuvanted vaccines have been known to cause fibrosarcomas in cats. Even though vaccine-related fibrosarcomas are rare (1 in 10,000 cats), they are extremely aggressive tumors and difficult to treat.
Other risks associated with vaccinations include mild and short-lived reactions, such as poor appetite, lethargy, and fever that resolve without treatment. Rarely, more serious allergic reactions occur and may include vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling, or difficulty breathing. These serious reactions appear within minutes or hours of vaccinations and require immediate veterinary care.
